Dogs And Treadmills – Dog Depression Treatment

Dog Depression Treatment

My Dog Seems Depressed!

It is not uncommon for dogs to get depressed. They can become bored very easily and when they are bored for extended periods of time this can lead to dog depression.

The more intelligent the dog, the more likely it is to get depressed as they need more stimulation in the form of work or activities that can keep their mind active.

Dog Depression Symptoms

Appetite changes – A depressed dog may stop eating or eat like her life depended on it. It all depends on the dog. Again, in this situation, it’s always best to look for sudden and/or extreme changes in appetite.

Sleeping often – The average adult dog sleeps about 12 to 14 hours in a 24-hour day. Puppies sleep 18 to 20 hours, so it would be difficult to notice an increase here. However, if your adult dog starts sleeping like a puppy, he may be depressed.

Paw licking – That incessant licking may be a sign that your dog is down in the dumps. Keep in mind that there are also physiological reasons for your dog to chew at her paws too, including bacterial infections, eczema, joint pain, and dry skin. However, if your dog is licking at his paws and exhibiting other signs on this list, it may be due to depression.

Hiding – If your dog never seems to be around the family anymore, this may be a sign of depression. Dogs are pack animals, so the family is important. When they retreat and begin spending more time alone, it is never a good sign.

This is one of the reasons why dog training is so important because a dog that is trained well will get a lot more out of life by pleasing its owner and it will also have a leader that it can look to for security and confidence.

Often the weather in the area we live can be the biggest problem when trying to keep a dog active with the colder winter months and shorter daylight hours making it difficult to exercise the dog.

Dogs and Treadmills

There are alternatives for dogs just as there are for humans in these conditions and many people are unaware that it is possible to get a dog treadmill for their dog so they can still be exercised no matter what the conditions outside are like. Including freezing temperatures in the winter and hot days in the Summer.

A Diet of Good Food and Good Exercise For Your Dog

To stay fit and healthy and happy and strong, a dog needs good exercise and good food just as humans do. They’re an important part of our families, and they rely on us to understand their needs since they can’t talk to us. Fortunately, dogs are a bit more resilient than humans, but they still do need regular exercise and good food.
